Greetings everyone! Sorry for the long delay on this one, but this project is my first time hosting anything with assets online, so I wanted to make sure I had all my citations in place so credit can go where it’s do. Those artists who make assets, even (or especially) those who make their work available for free, deserve credit for all that work.
So here we go! First off, we’ve got music! And it absolutely rocks, thanks to the folks over at Abstraction. Check it out on their page, or hear it in game here: https://povingames.com/siphthedev/Nov17_ProjAscent/
We have a title screen now, and it’s no longer a single purple block with white text on it:
There’s now a help screen, which should clarify things for anyone who hasn’t played tower defence games before (it’s still a bit rough around the edges, but it’s at least readable.)
We’ve also got a credits screen, to make sure everyone gets there due. If you’re looking for good assets, these have certainly helped me out:
However, the biggest changes are yet to come:
Gameplay:
That’s right! We have an actually playable, and almost fun, experience here!
We have three types of enemies now, with varying speed and health! To combat them, you’ve now got access to two different types of tower (with room to expand yet), which you can select from the menu on the right. The archer shoots single homing shots (they’ll chase a target), while the wizard simply emits a burst of magic damaging all in the area. [Assets courtesy of CleanCutGames]
They’ll hold off the new enemies, such as the speedy wolves and the monstrous barbarians.
The stakes are truly raised now, however, because you can actually lose! If you’re HP (hit-points) drop below 0, the game is over, and you have to start again!
However, you can now take a bit of a breather if you need to, because there’s also a new pause screen!
Overall, it really has been a productive few weeks, and I’m sorry I didn’t get an update here for y’all earlier. Keep an eye out for next week, though. The actual assignment is due on the 24th, so you’ll get to see a proper release build soon enough! If you’re lucky, I might even have a video presentation for y’all!
See you then, –Siphimir
